You Don’t Have to “Go it” Alone!
Connect with Patients Who Have Been Where You Are & “Get You!”
It’s All About the Connection! The TransplantStrong Mentor Program exists to connect patients to empowering information. Whether you or someone you care about is preparing to make important decisions about their transplant needs, talking to a mentor can help you feel less frightened, confused and alone.
Imagine being able to talk to someone who has already encountered the same types of challenges you’re experiencing. Someone who can relate to your fears firsthand and still reached their goals. You no longer have to just imagine it, you can experience this virtual connection.

Why Consider A Mentor-Mentee Connection? You might wonder why a complete stranger would take the time to share their journey with you. The answer is quite simple—because they understand the value of what it would be like to get insight from more experienced patients. This is there way of giving back, by helping you. Mentors can offer a “sneak preview” of coming attractions by shining their brilliant light down an uncertain road ahead. Mentors never forget what it felt like to be confused and afraid—and feel alone in a sea of uncertainty. They are passionate about bridging the communication gap, by offering real patient dialogues that can go well beyond the boundaries of a timed-constrained exam room.
“There is no substitute for those who have walked the path before us. We crave a connection outside the boundaries of our exam rooms. We’re seeking real-life experiences from real-life patients who have walked a mile in our shoes. Learning how others reached their goals —and are now thriving, not just surviving, gives us hope, courage & strength for brighter days ahead.“ – Risa Simon
What to Expect. Your mentor is trained to listen to your concerns and address your questions by sharing their own personal experiences. They are happy to share both the good and the not so good, including their “teaching point” missteps along the way.
Please note that mentors are not medical experts and therefore are prohibited from medical advice or recommendations. All mentor-mentee discussions are to be taken as “fellow-patient” exchanges. Your mentor’s sole purpose is to be your empathetic sounding board while offering their own personal “story perspective.”Confidentiality is extremely important. All information shared during your peer to peer mentoring sessions is to be kept in strict confidence.
